THE BEST GREEN BEANS ….you’ll ever eat

Have you had scrumptious green beans lately? I’m not talking about beans from a can!  You need to make this vegetable side dish for your next Holiday dinner. I first tried these during Thanksgiving dinner last year.  My sister in Law Leslie, brought these to our dinner table.  I knew I would be making them for my family this year…..and I did!  You can find fresh whole green beans in any vegetable section of your grocery store.  They are a snap to snap, and the crispy fried bacon pieces along with the roasted red peppers makes this dish yummy.  I don’t even really care for red peppers, but they firm up and caramelize as the dish is prepared.  These green beans didn’t last long at our table!
YOU WILL NEED:

1/4 pound bacon (about 5 slices), cut into 1/2-inch pieces
 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
 1/2 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
Couple dashes hot sauce, such as Tabasco
1 1/2 pounds green beans, trimmed and rinsed
1/3 cup jarred roasted red peppers, coarsely chopped

DIRECTIONS:

In a large skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until almost done, 5 to 6 minutes. Add the chopped roasted red peppers and continue to toss, until bacon is crispy. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the bacon and peppers to a paper-towel-lined plate to drain. Remove the skillet from the heat and stir the Worcestershire sauce, sugar, mustard and hot sauce into the bacon fat. Return the skillet to high heat, add the green beans and cook, tossing occasionally with tongs, until crisp-tender, about 6 minutes. Stir in the red peppers and the bacon, tossing until warmed through, about 1 minute.

I was going to make these tonight, but the green beans I bought went bad! Can I make this with canned green beans?ReplyCancel

You might possibly make the sauce, and toss it with the canned green beans. They would still taste good with the Bacon and that yummy sauce. Part of what makes these beans so delicious though, is cooking the green beans with the sauce and the bacon. Let me know how they turn out.ReplyCancel
