PARMESAN BREAD STICKS

These bread sticks are one of my guilty pleasures. I can resist many things, but bread sticks just aren’t one of them. I like to try to new recipes, and so tonight I did just that. I have several bread stick recipes that are really good, and I will add this one to the list! This dough is actually pizza dough. My favorite food is pizza, however tonight I made bread sticks to go with our Beef Broccoli Stir Fry. I halved the dough once it had risen, and put the other half in the freezer for future use. You can also make pizzas from this recipe. Make four small pizzas or two large. These bread sticks are fabulous, and I can’t make to make pizza soon!

Hot from the oven!
This dough rose very nicely.
Shape dough into greased baking pan
brush with melted butter
sprinkle with garlic salt
I add the parmesan cheese…after baking
They smell divine!

YOU WILL NEED:

1 package active dry or fresh yeast
1 1/2 teaspoons honey
1 cup warm water
 3 cups all purpose flour
 1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil

DIRECTIONS:

In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and honey in 1/4 cup of the warm water. In a mixer fitted with a dough hook, combine the flour and the salt. Add the oil, yeast mixture, and the remaining 3/4 cup of water and mix on low speed until the dough comes cleanly away from the sides of the bowl, and clusters around the dough hook, about 5 minutes.
This dough can also be made in a food processor. Dissolve the yeast as above. Combine the flour and salt in the bowl of a food processor fitted with the steel blade. Pulse once or twice, add the remaining ingredients, and process until the dough begins to form a ball.
Turn the dough out onto a clean work surface and knead by hand 2 minutes longer. The dough should be smooth and firm. Cover the dough with a clean damp towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 30 minutes, or until good and doubled.

For Breadsticks:
*I split the dough in half, and shaped 1/2 of the dough onto a greased baking sheet. Brush the top with melted butter, score with a pizza cutter for breadsticks, and let raise again until double. Bake in 375 degree oven until golden brown. Brush the top again with melted butter, sprinkle with garlic salt, and then Parmesan cheese. Save the other half in the freezer for future use.
Simply let frozen bread dough thaw until nice and warm. Make another pan of breadsticks.

For Pizza:
*Place a pizza stone on the middle rack of the oven and preheat the oven to 500 degrees. Prepare pizzas with desired toppings and bake about 10 to 12 minutes. (Longer if you are not using a pizza stone.
**With this recipe, you can make 4 small pizzas, or you can divide the dough in half and make two large 12 inch pizzas.
