Little Black Book Banana Bread

I have a this little black book.  It’s not mine, it’s Sadie’s Little Black Book.  I’m not giving it back though.

KT0C9343wThis little black book has made me re-think some things . . . many things actually.  Let me give you an example, so you’re not confused.

I remember . . . being a college student. One of my first dates while living in Idaho, took me to a little less than luster cafe.

I immediately thought cheap.  Is this the best he can do?

Once inside the doors, I quickly realized that the only form of seating, was in the form of bar-stools. Fourteen to maybe sixteen stools in all, filled that tiny little room.

After a quick survey of the cramped cafe, it didn’t take us long to realize that every bar-stool was taken.  Relief flushed through me, as my mind anticipated getting to leave.  The door kept opening but we weren’t leaving.  Our backs were up against a wall. Literally!  We were just standing there, watching everyone eat.  I felt uncomfortable and glanced toward my “cheap” date.  He just smiled and assured me the wait wouldn’t long.  Meanwhile, groups of people were pile-ing in the door. Soon, we were like sardines in a can.

Suddenly, two bar-stools opened up and it was our turn to sit.  Sit we did.  There was only one waitress, and she quickly cleared and wiped our allotted counter space and plopped down a little menu.  The waitress worked very hard.  This place was crazy BUSY!

My eyes scanned plates coming from the kitchen. Half of the masses were ordering the same thing. I have to admit, it looked good, really good.  When the waitress took our order, I followed suit.  I ordered what looked to be the most popular dish. It was finger steaks and shrimp and it was better than great.

Some of you are thinking . . . I know what she’s talking about . . . I know where this is. Lucky us!

Long story short, I quickly eliminated any second date with said first date. I almost felt guilty though . . . that meal was one of my best ever. It wasn’t cheap it was the kind of meal you think about for days.

That particular date wasn’t for me, but the little dive cafe sure was.  The food was and still is incredible.  Thirty five + 1/2  years later, it’s still my favorite date place.  I just go with my favorite guy instead!

The motto of this story:  DON’T JUDGE A BOOK BY IT’S COVER.

Sadie’s Little Black Book is a lot like that little cafe. It isn’t flashy. It isn’t filled with beautiful pictures that make you salivate.  It’s a small soft-back Little Black Recipe Book, that you will come back to over and over again.

You see . . .while gazing over racks of hard bound beautiful recipe books, a sales lady actually pointed it out and waved it in my face.  She said . . . “Don’t judge this book by it’s cover!”  “It’s fabulous!”

Soon, the book was in my hand.  I really wasn’t interested, but was too shy to put it back on the shelf. I carried it begrudgingly to the checkout stand, along with one of the gorgeous books that make you swoon.  That book, was intended for a birthday gift.

Now, you probably think that this is a paid post . . . It’s not.  I just am really happy with this Little Black Recipe Book.  Every recipe I’ve tried has been quite perfect.

I wonder how often we pass by something less luster, but spectacular . . . because it wasn’t pretty enough?  Often.  I think often.

We HAD chosen our favorite Banana Bread.  It was a hands down winner.  THIS banana bread CHANGED our minds!  There is something different about it.  It’s rich tasting, fluffy and light.  It’s delicious.

KT0C9270w

My sweet friends that frequent my back yard, could even smell it baking.

KT0C9291w

Possibly . . . I would be smart to leave them a banana bread trail, so they’ll quit eating all my bushes and trees.

KT0C9286w

See . . . they can all smell this banana bread.

KT0C92912wIs there anything sweeter than this face!  I’d share my Banana Bread with them any day.

Thanks Jonna! The first time I had finger steaks was in the Idaho Falls temple cafeteria. I never heard of finger steaks before but they are tasty. I’m going to have to take a day trip up to Chiz’s very soon.ReplyCancel

          Hi Heidi,

You will love the Finger Steaks & Shrimp entree. So good!
The Sweet & Sour Pork is also a favorite of ours. It’s like nothing you’ve ever had before.

Chiz’s is the BEST! I went to high school in St. Anthony, but have never ever actually eaten there….only their take out. 🙂 This banana bread has made it to my “to try” list. We have a favorite recipe for banana bread, but you convinced me to give it a shot.ReplyCancel
