. . . you know that “spook in the air” kinda feeling!
If you’re not feeling it, I’m about to help you get your “spook” on.
Today I’m going to show you how to fill your home with sizzling snakes called Hallowieners and Creepy Caterpillars. You must stay here for the caterpillars, and then you’ll need to jump over to the famous Rhodes Bake N Serv website. Why you ask? Today I’m guest posting at Rhodes and I’ll teach you how to make Hallowieners. They are scary delicious!
You can’t have the savory . . . without some sweet.
Hallowieners and Creepy Caterpillars . . . Disgustingly good!
Let’s make some Caterpillars first, then you can crawl over to Rhodes, for the tutorial on making ssssssssSNAKES!
You will need Texas or Dinner rolls, thawed but still a bit cold. (One roll for each Caterpillar) Cut one Texas size Dinner roll into 6 to 8 pieces. (I cut each roll into 6 pieces) A pair of Kitchen scissors works great. Melt 1/2 to 1 stick of butter in a microwave safe dish. Prepare Cinnamon & Sugar mixture and place in another dish. (1 cup sugar + 1 tablespoon cinnamon) I also put 1 teaspoon of Vanilla Extract in my melted butter! yum.
FYI: The Texas roll is just a bit bigger in size than the original Dinner roll. Either will work.
Roll each piece into a ball.
Roll each ball around in the melted butter.
Roll it around in the cinnamon sugar mixture. (You could also substitute Parmesan in place of the cinnamon sugar mixture) Arrange each sugar coated ball of dough on a cookie sheet that has been lined with parchment paper, or use a silpat. Place 6 to 8 balls into a curved caterpillar shape. I also took the scissors and snipped through the tops of the dough to give the Caterpillars distinguished marks. Snip little holes for the eyes as well.

With a toothpick, make an indention for eyes. Give your caterpillar some eyes: Place a raisin or a currant in the head of each caterpillar, (before baking) or you can insert a mini chocolate chip after the caterpillar is baked. (Set the raisin or currant into those snipped eye holes) Cover with saran wrap and let rise for about 15 minutes. Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 to 15 minutes or until little balls of dough are golden. Don’t over cook them!

My favorite cookbook? ohhhhhhhh boy……….with over 500 in my possession that’s a hard one. I would have to say the one I love and reach for most is one that my daughter and I put together for our church-it’s full of tried and true recipes from friends and family-some no longer with us. That makes it even more of a treasure to me.

So darn cute! And creepy. lol My favorite cookbook right now is Deceptively Delicious by Jessica Seinfield. I have 2 small ones and getting them to eat all of their veggies can be tough. It’s been great sneeking in purees and them not even knowing it.

Seriously, I love your blog! You have amazing recipes and always make it look so easy. My favorite cookbook growing up was the old version of better homes and gardens. The newer version have some of the good recipes out of them because they take longer or are harder!
