Hi.

I’m Jonna

Jonna10

Sometimes I’m serious . . .

Most of the time, I’m seriously happy.

 I’m thrilled you’re here!

Please pull up a chair and stay a while.

You probably haven’t heard the name Jonna before.
It’s like the name Jon, with a na on the end.

I was named after my sweet Dad – Jon.

A little bit about me:
I love a clean, clutter free house.
I love to tickle the ivory’s on my Grand.
My stress relievers are baking & playing the piano.
I am not a chef or a professional cook . . . I simply pretend.
I am a happy wife of 37 years, mom to 4 gorgeous girls, nana to 12  . . . who cooks.

WHY THE NAME  . . . Get Off Your Butt and BAKE

Growing up, I learned to cook with my sweet Mom. She was busy raising 6 kids and often left the cookie jar task to me. As long as I would clean up the mess, she gave me free reign in her kitchen. I learned to make meals, but my true passion was creating desserts & other delectable sweets.

My 3 pesky brothers, could empty the cookie jar as fast as I could fill it. It seemed they were always taunting me . . . “Get Off Your Butt and Bake something!”

It was only logical, to bring this name to life on my baking blog.

I  urge you to stop buying and start baking again. It’s fun and relaxing and gives you a sense of purpose.

Mouth watering pictures, step by step narration and tutorials, will keep you yearning and learning for more.

    Hello Joanna:

I want to make the puff pastry pigs in blankets for a Christmas progressive party and I am to host the appetizers. I will need to make about 60 of them and would like to know if I am going to make them ahead of time should I bake them before I freeze them and then just heat and will they still be flaky and crispy or should I just bake all of them the day that I want to serve them and then just briefly warm them?

Thanks for any suggestions you can give.

    • Get Off Your Butt and BAKE! - October 20, 2012 - 9:50 am

      Hi Patsy,

I would make them in advance, and freeze them – UNBAKED!
The day of your party, thaw them but make sure that the puff pastry is still VERY COLD and firm….then bake them. Yum.

Quick question, the cream cheese frosting and the marshmellow frosting, I haven’t tried it yet but can you pipe it or is it more of a spread onto the cupcake kind of thing?ReplyCancel

    • Get Off Your Butt and BAKE! - October 26, 2012 - 6:50 pm

      Hi Crystal,

Both recipes are easily piped onto cupcakes….and look pretty.
Make sure that you beat, beat, beat, beat the marshmallow frosting, and then it will hold stiff peaks.
You can also take your torch and make it a beautiful toasted Marshmallow frosting!

I just made your pretzel bites w cheese sauce for an Oktoberfest party….they are wonderful!!! Thanks so much!! The only change I make was I added about half a bottle of Oktoberfest beer into the cheese sauce to give it that malty taste. I will be visiting your site often! And I found it on pinterest. Thanks! Hi Jonna,

Great site ! Found you through Pinterest. I am confused about one thing though. Where is the Rhodes roll recipe for the pretzel bites? I can’t seem to find it on your site.

    • Get Off Your Butt and BAKE! - January 20, 2013 - 1:49 pm

      Hi Kristen,

You won’t find a recipe for Rhodes rolls. Rhodes is the brand name. It is pre-made dough, that comes in balls. It’s in the freezer
section of the grocery stores. You can buy bags of these little frozen balls of bread dough. You simply let the balls of dough thaw, and then you can make a million different things with it.
I blog for Rhodes, and have to use their products…..it’s quite wonderful, when you are pressed for time.
      The dough is very good.

Good luck….I hope you are able to find it.

I happened upon your blog the other day looking for a teriyaki chicken rice bowl recipe and voila – yours was the one I picked and was NOT disappointed. I had to laugh and share your blog name with my husband of 26 years who also laughed especially when I told him where you got your name – “That’s awesome” was his reply. Thanks for re-inspiring me to get off my butt and bake. I needed a kick!ReplyCancel

I’m an avid cook and baker myself, so I really enjoy your blog. But I have to comment on your claim that you’ve been married for 34 years. Based on your photos, that would mean you were betrothed at birth! I hope you and your husband don’t mind me saying this, but you not only look much younger than your years, but you are also one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen!ReplyCancel

      Hi Mike,

      Well . . . Thank you!
That is one of the nicest comments I’ve ever received. At my age, that is a very nice thing to hear.

I’m glad you took no offence to my compliment. These days it’s hard to say something nice to a woman without fearing a sexual harassment lawsuit! lol

Anyway, I had a question about your recipe for the Chocolate Vanilla Swirl Almond Bundt Cake. It calls for 3 cups of flour, but doesn’t specify what type of flour. Based on my experience, I’m pretty sure it’s all-purpose flour, but I thought I’d double check with you. Thanks.ReplyCancel

    Hi, Jonna,

I just accessed your web site via a Google search for slow cooker/crock-pot barbecue chicken. I found the perfect one on your page, and I plan to make it today. I do not have the peach marmalade, which you list as optional, and because it’s a very wet, rainy day in Central Arkansas, I will not be getting out to get it. However, next time I’ll be sure to add that special ingredient. Best wishes for a happy and healthy 2015! Deborah from Little Rock, ArkansasReplyCancel
