Almost daily, there is a new diet that has popped up in the atmosphere. I swear with all the diets and advice bombarding us, we should all be size perfect! I really don’t feel that we’re on a fair playing field anymore. Lips are stung like bees, boobs are plumped & perky and butts are sucked & tucked. What is perfect? A bite of this pie. That’s what.

Today, I thought I was heading to jury duty. You know, that thing that comes in the mail saying you been summoned. Last night, I was so thoughtfully informed that it was postponed for one week. I don’t have to wait and wonder what is planned for next Friday though, it’s already been planned. I…

As I type this post, the light from the office window is barely peaking through the snow covered panes. The wind is howling, and the branches on our massive pine trees are drooping from the weight of mother natures fury today. I like it. It gives me a sense of peace and a sense of home….

On my left is misery. On my right is sweet heaven. My left contact is for monovision, or up close reading. My right contact is fitted for distance. It took a while to adjust and at times I still fill as if I’m on a boat, rocking back and forth. My left side is cluttered…

It’s Valentine’s Day. I like it. I like it because we’ve always kept it simple. I like it because we’ve always kept it easy. I like it because we’ve always kept it real. I like it because we’ve always shared it with the same person. I like it because we still love each other.

Get Off Your Butt and BAKE - Hi Bran,
I think you are pretty darn incredible . . . always have . . . always will!
Love,
MomMarch 21, 2013 – 8:33 pm
Brandi - Mom I loved this post. Sometimes we just need a boost that the me I see in the mirror is okay. I do have a lot of body issues but I am working on them and that’s important. I am trying to be more active eat healthier and love my decisions without cutting out everything I love. Balance is hard. You are amazing though and look incredible. Always have.
These little desserts look wonderful to say the least!March 19, 2013 – 9:25 pm
Lokness @ The Missing Lokness - These little tarts look awesome, especially in the mini cast iron skillet. Never thought of using cast iron skillet as a tart pan. Brillant. I love the combination of lemon and raspberry. This must be a delightful dessert.March 19, 2013 – 7:22 pm
Get Off Your Butt and BAKE - Hi Cindy,
Oh boy, you truly have been through some trials of your own.
Fifty minutes a day after all those surgeries says something about your ability to thrive and endure!
It’s the delicious little bites that make life bearable!

Get Off Your Butt and BAKE - Hi Jordan,
I agree!
I truly believe that if people would just start baking/cooking and sit around the dinner table again,
we would all be happier, healthier people!
Thanks so much for commenting Jordan.

Jordan Little - Jonna, what a great question. Perfect to me is eating the things you want, moving and feeling good. I agree with you that people are just diet crazy. Things would be so much better if everyone just took a chill pill about the whole situation.
When I say eat what you want some people think that is impossible. When you really think about it, do you honestly want 5 brownies? No. You will feel terrible and probably pass out in a sugar coma. I appreciate your view of everything in moderation. Just because you love to bake does not make you an unhealthy person. Thanks for sharing great recipes and thoughts!

Cindy Harris - What an honest post. Hubby looks the same as when ai married him 38 years ago! I did real good until I had 10 back surgeries in the last 10 years. that kicked my butt and changed my lifestyle. Due to constant pain I’m not as active as I once was. But I am up to 50 minutes a day on the elliptical–which I consider a near miracle.
Yes, I gained some weight but I started out too skinny so it’s not the end of the world! I love to bake, and eat. But I give away plenty because I have no self-control! Small portions, whole grains, water, little processed foods, lots of fruits and veggies help us maintain.
I do love a bite of wonderful–this dessert looks just like the bite I want. Thanks for sharing.March 12, 2013 – 9:15 am
Get Off Your Butt and BAKE - Hi Ellie,
That’s so true. I’m playing the shifting game as well. That’s OK though, as long as it all shifts together! Thanks Ellie!

Ellie - What’s perfect you ask? Manufacturer’s LOVE to make us feel imperfect so they can sell their products! The “perfect size” is where you feel healthy and happy.
I too am one of these people who have never had to buy a new wardrobe because of a weight gain/loss…no, I’m not bragging here. As I get older I just call myself a “shape-shifter” because things seem to shift into different spots, lol!! Something we all have to realize as we age (if we’re lucky enough!) is that our skin will loosen no matter what we’ve done in our early years. And of course, genetics also plays a big role. But it’s always good to exercise! I am also married to a thin guy who never puts on any weight, but I always tell myself, “men are built differently”. I have never been a breakfast eater and as for the rest we very much eat like you do…everything in moderation!!March 9, 2013 – 10:34 pm
