It’s a good day.
I wish you could drop by my ” real home” and visit.
If you could . . .
the minute you walk through my door, you would smell the perfume.
As you follow that sweet fruity aroma, it would lead you right into my kitchen.
You could pull up a heavy iron stool and sit a while.
We would eat Pretty Plum Fruit Leather!

I have a new friend in my kitchen today . . . his name is BLENDTEC.
I put him to work.
I’m really excited to show you just how easy Fruit Leather is to make at home.
Especially when you have this beauty . . . “I’m in love!”
Guess what?
You all have a chance to win the
Total Blender Classic WildSide
by
It lives on the WILDSIDE . . . a Blending Beast.
A real “kick butt” work horse!
The Total Blender Classic Series® has so much power (1560 Watts) it turns ice to snow and actually comes with an Ice-Crushing Guarantee!
I told you it KICKS BUTT!
BLENDTEC also has this New Twister Jar
It’s designed to blend your thickest recipes such as: Nut Butters, Hummus, Baby Food, Dips, Thick Shakes, Dressings and more! Best of all, it’s compatible with all Blendtec Home Blenders.
If you are thinking that you rarely use your blender . . . think again.
Just watch the videos they offer on the Blendtec site, and you’ll soon realize that it’s like nine appliances in one.
Let me show you how easy it whipped up my fruit Leather!
This blender could easily help me with all that SALSA I’ve been making lately.
And so it all begins . . . like this.
I have orchards of sweet plum trees – I swear I do.
You will wash all those sweet plums and take the pits out . . . of course.
Fill that beautiful Blender and take it for a walk on the WILDSIDE.
It’s an amazing thing.
You’ll feel the power beneath your feet!
You will want to sweeten the fruit with Honey, Agave or granulated sugar – about 1/4 cup per 4 cups fruit,
or
to your taste buds.
I also add 1 Tablespoon of Fruit Fresh or you can add 1 Tablespoon fresh Lemon juice.
This helps the fruit from turning too brown.
Preheat your oven to the lowest possible temperature.
My Wolf oven has a low temp of 150 degrees F. The other one cranks down to 170 degrees.
Both temperatures will work just fine.
Line a Cookie sheet with a Silpat or Parchment paper or even plastic wrap. It won’t melt.
Spread the fruit puree about 1/8 inch thick. Leave about a 1/2 inch border.
Make sure that your edges are just as thick as the middle. The edges cook first.
Tap that cookie sheet a few times on top of your counter top to level the fruit and make it smooth.
Note: A Silpat works wondrously . . . the Plum Puree doesn’t spread where it’s not suppose to spread!
Bake for 6 to 8 hours or so, until the pulp has become leather and isn’t sticky to the touch.
Let it cool . . . then
Peel it off the Silpat.
Oh geez . . . you will love this stuff.
Other than the sugar that you use to sweeten it lightly, it’s quite healthy.
I think that some of those frozen Raspberries are also calling to be fruit Leather.
Blendtec Blenders are capable of any task. They have a new designer series that is gorgeous!
Roll it up in some wax paper, and store it in a zip-loc type bag or well sealed container.
If you like, you can use your pizza cutter and cut the Fruit Leather in strips.
. . . and there you have it!
NOW FOR THE IMPORTANT PART.

Homemade Fruit Leather
Yield: 1 pan fruit leather-about 10 fruit roll-ups
Ingredients:
3 cups ripe chopped fruit
Plums, Peaches, Raspberries, Strawberries are all great choices
Sweetener to taste
Agave, honey or Granulated sugar – I use about ¼ cup honey or sugar
1-tablespoon fresh lemon juice or 1 -tablespoon Fruit Fresh
*this helps preserve the color of the fruit
Note: I don’t peel the skin away from the Plums and Peaches. A good blender or Food Processor will puree it fine. The skin is the best part for you!
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 150 degrees F or the lowest temperature your oven will go. Line a 11 x 17 baking sheet with a Silpat baking mat. Set aside.
2. Puree the fruit, fruit fresh or lemon juice and sweetener of your choice in a blender or food processor until smooth. Pour fruit mixture onto prepared baking sheet and spread to about a 1/8″ thick. Leave at least ½” fruit free border along the edges of the pan. Tap the baking sheet on the counter a few times to make sure the fruit mixture is evenly distributed.
3. Place baking sheet in the oven and bake for 6-8 hours, until pan is set and the center is not tacky. Remove from oven and let cool to room temperature. Gently peel off the fruit leather from the Silpat. Cut into squares or strips using a pizza cutter, knife, or scissors, or leave fruit leather in sheets.
If you want to make fruit roll-ups, roll the strips in parchment or wax paper. Store in an air-tight container or zip-loc type bag.
Note-if you don’t have a Silpat baking mat, you can line the baking sheet with plastic wrap or parchment paper. The plastic wrap will not melt in the oven because the temperature is so low.
Note: Silpats work perfectly. The fruit mixture stays where you spread it, and you don’t have corners that don’t bake properly. The fruit leather easily lifts and never sticks or tears!

Get Off Your Butt and BAKE! - Hey Barb,
I’m sad too! Did you cook it long enough. It takes a long time…depending on how thick you pour it.
It also makes a difference in which fruit you use as well. I’ve used Parchment paper, plastic wrap and silpats, and all 3 work fine.
Silpats always work the easiest. Saran wrap won’t melt since the temp is kept so low.
If you haven’t already disposed of it, put it back in the oven, and cook it until it’s not tacky anymore.
Miss you Barb,
JonnaOctober 4, 2012 – 9:03 pm

I just have to say I love your blog and I’ve been following you for several months. I’ve tried tons of your recipes and they are always a hit with my family. When I saw the giveaway for a blendtec I got super excited! I’m in the market for a new blender, the one I have now is sadly breaking down. The bottom leaks and the motor is starting to burn up from daily use.
My favorite recipe to make with a blender is a fruit smoothie. This is my go to breakfast before my daily run.
1 cup pomegranate juice
1 cup baby spinach
1 frozen banana
hand full of frozen strawberries
2 tablespoons protein powder.
My husbands favorite smoothie is a mash of everything that he drinks every single morning after PT.
1 cup pomegranate juice
1 cup baby spinach
4-5 baby carrots
hand full of grapes
peeled and cored apple
2 pineapple ring slices
handful of frozen strawberries
1 bananaSeptember 21, 2012 – 11:33 am
Judi - Done and done! Sounds like a fantastic blender. My dad broke our last one pulling it out of the cupboard. Just slipped out of his hand and glass went flying. So I’ve been stuck with my little smoothie blender. Nothing fancy but it gets the job done… eventually! I dare not use ice or I’d for sure burn it up
The Blendtec blender would be a dream.
My favorite smoothie is pineapple, peach, mango and Naked Green Machine juice for an added nutrient boost. I also add greek yoghurt and Jillian Michael’s vanilla protein powder.
Love following in your recipes.September 21, 2012 – 10:11 am
Maria Malaveci - I can’t really answer the first question… because I have never owned a blender. I need a blender desperately. This blender… I have ooh and ahhh..’d over this blender for so long. Please pick me!

I know everyone loves smoothies, and I have to admit I don’t just love them. They have helped to change my life. I grew up making smoothies usually full of sugar and canned things. It wasn’t in til recently that I decided to go outside of my comfort zone and make my version of a green smoothie. And much to my surprise I love them. Unfortunately my blender disagreed and fell apart. I love smoothies so much that I borrowed one from a friend. With this machine I can keep myself going in the new healthy track that I started for myself. I’m a new me and I’m happy.
My favorite recipe:
Two handfuls of spinach
1 cup unsweetened vanilla flavored almond milk. Sometimes more if needed
A good squeeze of honey
A tablespoon of ground flax seed
A couple handfuls of Strawberries
Some frozen yellow and white peaches
and a few blueberries.
I rarely measure things, it’s just how I am. A dash here a dash there. No two smoothies seem the same, but that’s the way I like it.September 21, 2012 – 12:16 am

Diana - I like to make fabulously nutritious smoothies to enhance my daily diet! One of my favorites is a mix of fresh spinach, fresh pineapple, fresh lemon juice, one green apple, some fresh ginger, about a cup of coconut water and some fresh wheatgrass (plus some ice). I pretty much eyeball the quantities changing it up each time for the spinach and pineapple. The ginger couldn’t amount to more than a table spoon or two (shaved into blender). Mix it all up until frothy and smooth and enjoy!September 20, 2012 – 3:37 pm
cheyrl burns - I have a smoothie every morning! A scoop of Zeal, a scoop of Shakeology, Water or OJ and 12 ice cubes. This gives me energy to go all day. It keeps me regular too! I never thought of fruit leathers, This is a great recipe and idea.September 20, 2012 – 2:29 pm

Heather M - Right now my blender staple is fruit and yogurt smoothies. I’d use it for more, but alas, I have the worst blender in the world. One small smoothie is a torturous process… I have to start and stop the thing multiple times and shake up the contents to make it blend! But at least the result is good–and very tasty… OJ, frozen fruit, yogurt, a drizzle of honey, and a splash of real vanilla!

Lacey Peterson - I am a newly graduated college student who LOVES to make green smoothies. Water with your spinach, kale, half of a lemon (yes, the peel too!), banana, and berries/peaches/mango…. fruit of any kind, really. The lemon and banana are important to offset the bitterness of the greens. If you put in a little bit of crystal light powder, you won’t have any CLUE it’s got anything but fruit in the smoothie at all.September 19, 2012 – 2:37 pm
suzette - We eat lots of whole wheat blender pancakes and my old blender just doesn’t do it well. I saw the blendtec blender at Costco and it ground the wheat in no time flat. I would love this blender. I make smoothies almost daily or pancakes all the time. With 3 growing boys it’s always nice to whip up a little something healthy in my blender to satisfy them before the next meal.September 19, 2012 – 2:27 pm
